Poquoson Wrestling Reclaims Class 2 State Title

BRISTOL -- Poquoson reclaimed the Class 2 Virginia state wrestling championship which had eluded them for the past three seasons, leaving no doubt as the Islanders cruised to a decisive victory at the top of the 38-team field in Saturday’s final at Virginia High. For Poquoson, it marked a return to the state champion form that the team previously enjoyed, as they won in the four seasons from 2018-2021. The Islanders totaled 242.5 points, far ahead of Strasburg, who was runner-up with 173. Central, from King and Queen County, placed third with 114. Overcoming the contingent of wrestlers from Strasburg High, who had won the championship for the past three years was supposed to be team’s biggest obstacle heading into the competition. But with the recent outburst of snow to the southeast Virginia region, all six of the class finals were forced to break arrangements with their previous sites and find a capable high school to host their tournament. Hampton Track Women win Pirates First-Ever CAA Title

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (February 27, 2025) … The Hampton University women's indoor track and field team put together a day for the record books on Thursday, capturing the first Coastal Athletic Association title in school history by winning the 2025 Indoor Track and Field title at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex. Founding father Thomas Jefferson is often credited with the quotation, “an educated citizenry is a vital requisite for our survival as a free people.” Although the citation is inaccurate, it is a fairly precise paraphrasing of our third president’s views on the importance of education. While Jefferson may not have uttered these words almost 200 years ago, the importance of the thought is as relevant in the 21 st century as it was in the 19 th .
